Announcement of Residence Examination Processing Period (for permits granted in October 2024)

Currently, the processing time for residence examinations is tending to become longer.

The latest “Processing Period of Residence Examinations” (for permits granted in October 2024) has been announced.

Compared to the previous announcement (for permits granted from July to September 2024), the number of days required to obtain a permit has increased significantly.

(Example)

Approval of status of residence “Business management”: 118.5 days in the previous announcement → 145.1 days in this announcement

Status of Residence “Engineer/Humanities/International Services”: 62.1 days (last time) → 88.4 days (this time)

Status of Residence “Dependent”: 86.5 days last time → 96.6 days this time

According to the above, it is now taking approximately 5 months to be approved for business management visa.

Since these are average figures, it is expected that many cases will take longer than 5 months. It took about one month longer than the previous published value.

We have also noticed that the results of our clients’ cases for which we are currently applying for immigration approval are slower than usual.

The “Residence Examination Processing Period” (for applications approved in October 2024) posted on the Immigration and Residence Management Agency’s website also notes that “In most years, the examination period for employment status tends to be prolonged due to an increase in the number of applications in April, when the employment season begins. The note states, “Due to the increase in applications for employment in April every year, the examination period for employment eligibility tends to be prolonged.
